On the Syllabus!

This is just a quick post. More of a note, really, but one of the reasons for this blog is to document my writing journey for myself. And I don’t want to forget this little tidbit.

I recently learned that a poem of mine was taught in a classroom. Not only that, but was one of the students’ favorite poems that day.

This means the poem needed to make it across the border to the U.S., catch the attention of a teacher, have the teacher read the poem, then have them decide the poem is worthwhile to teach in class, add it to the class syllabus, present the poem in class to students, and have discussions based on the poem, and then have that poem resonate with enough students to make it one of their favorites of the day.

To me, that is a quite a journey for a piece to make.

I think 18 year old me would have been ecstatic to know this, and maybe if she had, she might not have taken such a long break from writing.
