Favorite Corners - Dubrovnik

We’ve done the walls of Dubrovnik, Old Town, Lokrum, and an Elaphiti island. What else could be left to add to our list of favorite corners? Read on, my friend, read on…
About a 30-minute bus ride from Dubrovnik’s old town are the areas of Gruz and Lapad. The Gruz port area is a sheltered inlet, perfect for boat watching or for catching a ferry off to a new adventure. Also, a very pretty place for an evening walk.
A newer addition to the skyline in Gruz, we sailed by The Franjo Tuđman Bridge several times while taking ferries in and out of Gruz and even rode across it on our unplanned bus ride back from Split.
The area of Lapad is right next to Gruz. There is a higher concentration of hotels in this area with their own amazing views and beaches. This pebble beach is called Uvala. Skip the 15 euro sun chair rental and head towards the water. There’s a little ledge built into the wall, perfect for sitting on. No surprise, the water is very clean and clear.
I was seriously thinking of creating another post called “The Cats of Dubrovnik”. Cats are everywhere here and we loved seeing them. This little one was our first encounter and she was guarding a perfect swimming hole spot.
There is a coastal walk around the Lapad penninsula that we fell in love with. Starting at Uvala beach and heading towards the hotels (on the Cave Bar More side), it’s a lovely walk full of great sea views and little swimming hole areas where you can just claim for your own for a few minute or longer.
In and around Dubrovnik, we found steps leading down to these little seaside coves of rock and concrete. Some people just stay there and sun, but others use this as a stopping point for a swim (or in our case, dipping our toes). They even have ladders in and out of the water.
On our first day here, we ended up on the most western point on Lapad (and probably in Dubrovnik). Very few people, and perfect clear views to watch the sun sink into the ocean for another day.
Good night from Dubrovnik!
