Food Fridays - Vancouver

It’s not too hard to fill up a day or two in Vancouver with continuous snacking, munching, sampling, and lunching. There’s a ton of variety (Cambodian food, anyone?) and a lot of competition, plus, it’s a good indoor activity when the weather just won’t co-operate.

Let’s start with some spicy mainland Chinese food. Braised lamb with biang biang noodles in soup, old Xian tofu, Spicy oil biang biang noodle with soy sauce pork and tomato and fried egg.

Strawberry/blueberry bubble waffle (there is a baked blueberry rattling around inside each bubble). Each bubble breaks off for the perfect sharing proportion.

Filet beef luc lac on rice. The verdict? Tastes just like it did in Cambodia!

Amok - steamed seafood with coconut milk and Cambodian style sauce.

Garlic chicken wings. Crispy, garlicky deliciousness.

While we’re on the subject of finger food, found these tasty meat sticks at the Granville market. They say they’re fantastic for hikes, but they’re also pretty good while shopping too.

Lobster mac and cheese. Just good comfort food.

Oden with house choice of boiled egg, deep fried tofu, daikon, Japanese taro potato jelly, and fish cake. Also good comfort food.

Deep-fried chicken knee cartilage. Just goes to show, when it’s deep fried, it could be anything.

“Kakuni” - slow stewed pork with daikon radish and poached egg. The pork was sooo soft.

Alpine Charcuterie board (gruyere, ementhaler cheese, salami, prosciutto). For those picky days.

Yosenabe - seafood, chicken, veggies, bamboo shoots, Japanese mushrooms, Harusume noodles in soup.

Fancy green tea at a fancy tea bar.

There’s always room for dessert, especially if it’s the lightest crustless cheesecake ever. Like eating a sweet cloud of triangular perfection.
