Food Fridays - Dubrovnik

Our food experience here was all about proximity. Dubrovnik’s proximity to the coast meant amazingly fresh seafood and its proximity across the Adriatic Sea from Italy meant that we found a few familiar dishes we’d been craving.

I love straightforward menus with no fuss and muss. The name for this dish literally said “a pile of little fish”. Add a little side of homemade potato salad and it’s a delicious light snack.

Okay, so, we had a lot of risotto here. Bear with me as we make it through the chicken risotto…

…the seafood risotto…

…the black truffle and forest mushroom risotto…

…but the greatest of these was the black risotto.

The pizza here is cheap, filling, and delicious. Also, good to share if there’s a hankering for something light. Can’t go wrong with tomato sauce, mozzarella, proscuitto cotta, homemade sausage, bacon, pepperoni, and little slices of pepper for that hint of heat.

On the beverage side of things, Ožujsko is a Croatian brand available pretty much everywhere.

Not gonna lie, food prices in Dubrovnik were a little high so we supplemented with a few things. The local grocery stores here are Tommy and Studenac. Perfect to grab those quick snacks to fill the gap.

Seafood platter with mussels, squid, shrimp, a fresh white fish, and a delicious side of garlicky potatoes and swiss chard. Side note, the grilled fish in Croatia is simply amazing.

Don’t forget the bread to mop up the sauces (although, do check if it costs extra).

Gelato tasting again. This time a refreshing coconut and almond. Delicious!

After our risotto sprint, I needed some pasta. Here’s a tasty, hearty spaghetti bolognese.

Never had crab soup before. I was definitely missing out.

This is burek, flaky buttery meat-filled pastry. Perfect for on-the-go situations like catching a ferry to the next city!
