The Espinho Boardwalk

On a map, Espinho station and Granja station were just two train stops we needed to pass through on our way to Aveiro. However, once on that train, we began to get glimpses of the sea and then we saw a long beautiful stretch of boardwalk. After dropping pins and google mapping the area via satellite, we discovered that the walkway began in the small beach town of Espinho. So, that’s where we headed.

Our plan was to start in Espinho and then walk the boardwalk back to the previous stop which was Granja Station. We took a 40 minute train ride from Porto and began our journey.

Espinho would’ve made a lovely beach destination, but we were running out of daylight and had to keep moving. As we reached the end of Espinho’s main beach, the boardwalk came into view.

As we went along, we saw signs that said the boardwalk existed to minimalize foot traffic and prevent destruction of the natural plants.

Some parts jutted out along the way, leading towards sea and beach.

Of course, we spent a little quiet time watching the waves.

The boardwalk actually stretches all the way back to Vila Nova de Gaia, but it’s a very very long walk. It’s only a 4 minute train ride between Espinho station Granja station, but there’s so much beauty in between.

We reached the Granja area right around the perfect time to catch the sunset at this beautiful observation spot, Meia Laranja.
