Food Fridays - Cornwall

Our time in Cornwall was spent weaving in and out of seaside towns and discovering villages tucked between the grassy patchwork of farmer's fields.  While in these nooks and crannies of the countryside, we never tired of the many food options available.  We tried some classics like fish'n'chips and cream tea, but also made some new edible discoveries along the way too.

Fish and chips with a side of mushy peas, onion rings, and a spot of tea.

Jacket potatoes are very popular here and can be garnished simply (but deliciously) with butter or loaded with various toppings like baked beans, tuna, or this cheese with bacon and ranch dressing.

Crab cakes

Steak and Guinness pie

Cornish pasty used to be the lunch of choice for local miners.  The thick crust allowed them to hold their food and would then be discarded.

Lemon meringue pie

A deconstructed mango cheesecake

A morning latte with a view of the sea

A hearty breakfast of egg, sausages, well-buttered toast, back bacon, baked beans, and hash browns.

Traditional Cornish Cream Tea: homemade scones, strawberry jam, Rodda's clotted cream, and a piping hot pot of tea

Pan fried scallops, pork belly bon bon, apple and pickled red cabbage

Grilled Cornish mackerel with cucumber, peas and watercress.

Clotted cream flavored ice cream (which tasted more or less like a really creamy vanilla ice cream)
