Fragments of Autumn at Glacier Lake

This piece is actually five poems in one. I’ve been wanting to do some sort of linked series for a while now, but as usual, I needed the right prompt. When IceFloe Press’ call for Geographies 2022 came out, I began toying with ideas. At first it wasn’t a series, but several disparate ideas floating around, linked by the backdrop of an autumn lake (which eventually became a glacier lake as the themes progressed). I thought I would work on each one, and then see where they went and pick the best one. By the end, they began to reference and link to each other, so they all stayed and here they are.

Read “Fragments of Autumn at Glacier Lake” as part of IceFloe Press’ Geographies 2022 series (and no, the year isn’t a typo, it is just when the series began).

The lake could claim me if she wanted.   But there is not enough salt in my body to
turn her into sea.
