So happy to be back working with the lovely Karen Pierce Gonzalez of FolkHeart Press, this time in Ekphrastic Folk Art, Season 2.
I think all cultures have some sort of soup - bits of ingredients boiled and simmered down into something warm and nourishing, each bowl, a reminder of history and tradition. I did not grow up with fish soup, so having it now is a new experience in my adult life. And eating it is something I find particularly challenging. So, I decided to write about it.
There are times when it doesn't make sense to move forward, and all we need to do is stay in place and enjoy the moment. I've been to this cliffside many times before, but this was the first time we made a deliberate attempt to stay and enjoy it.

With its laid back atmosphere and abundant cafe culture, Busan blends sea-side charm with big city amenities and activities. We had no troubles finding things to do in the second largest city in South Korea. We spent rainy days wandering the world’s largest department store, lively evenings along boardwalks and street food markets, and sunny days wandering miles of cliffside.
Songdo Beach. As its name suggests, it has ocean views and a long stretch of sandy beach, but there is so much more here that we felt it deserved its own post. We started with a beach walk, then a stunning scenic cable car ride that paralleled the coast, and ended in a fantastic nature park that included dinosaurs, dragons, and a little prince.
Originally, a place for refugees during the Korean War in the 1950’s, Gamcheon’s roots may have come from a dark place in this country’s history, but in a time span of less than 100 years, it has blossomed into a healing space nurtured by art and community.
