Songdo Beach
Songdo Beach. As its name suggests, it has ocean views and a long stretch of sandy beach, but there is so much more here that we felt it deserved its own post. We started with a beach walk, then a stunning scenic cable car ride that paralleled the coast, and ended in a fantastic nature park that included dinosaurs, dragons, and a little prince.
The beach is a lovely walk, bordered by restaurants and hotels, but our adventures didn’t really get underway until we took the cable car and the views started pouring in.
Looking back at Songdo Bay Station. The Songdo Marine Cable Car takes passengers 1.62 km into the air. There are different types of cabins to choose from. There’s the regular Air Cruise or the more premium Crystal Cruise which has a glass floor for the extra cost.
Our intended destination was that little island on the left (Dongseom Island). We were hoping to head straight there after our cable car crossed the sea and docked at Songdo Sky Park, but it was closed for the day.
Instead, we headed for the rooftop Sky Harbor Observation Deck which was full on Instagram/selfie opportunities including a Le Petit Prince Theme Zone which was quite popular.
Taking in the cuteness of one of the photo stations.
While the cable car is the most obvious way back and forth, there is also a coastal path that goes from one cable car station to the other if one preferred a very long walk.
Behind the cable car station is the colorful Park Square which leads into Amnam Park and the healing forest trail.
What the previous picture doesn’t show well is one of our favorite surprises. There were a number of dinosaurs in Park Square. Shown here is the towering and well known Brachiosaurus, but they also had a T-Rex, and a little shout out to Canada in the form of a Parasaurolophus which hails from Edmonton, Alberta.
We ventured into the healing forest for a quick hike before sunset. Luckily, there was a map near the entrance.
There are four main hikes, all color coded and ranging from 20-70 minutes. The trails weren’t that well marked once we were actually on them, so it was a good thing we took a picture of the map.
A little rest stop on the middle of the forest to watch the sunset over the sea.
While we didn’t make it across Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge to Dongseom Island, we did get to see it lit up at night.
Near the base of the cable car, we found the Dragon of Wishes. A golden tag can be purchased from the ticket office, for those who want write down a wish and attach it to the dragon.
While we enjoyed the daytime views from the cable car, we were blown away by what we saw at night.
Our final activity for the day, walking the Songdo Sky walk over the water looking up at the cables cars as they drifted overhead.
