My last publication of the year appears in the very lovely winter issue of Whale Road Review. I’ve been wanting to get into this journal for a while now. They publish great poetry and also send tea and thank-you cards to contributors which is very cool of them.
Read MoreOne of the bigger things I did this year for the writing was attend the Surrey International Writers’ Conference. It was an intense three days of workshops with talks ranging from the practical (traditional vs. indie publishing) to the useful (there actually is a formula for creating good endings), to the just plain fun (fashion in science fiction). The highlight, and where I subsequently actually got some work and inspiration from, was in Ian Williams’ poetry workshop. This was just before he blew up famous by winning the Scotiabank Giller Prize a few weeks later. So cool.
Read MoreMost of the inspiration for my poems is drawn from a feeling of place. In the case of “The Sunday Ruins of La Chiesa”, it was a small abandoned church in Salerno, Italy. Read a little bit more about this poem and the church that inspired it…
Read MoreI’ve got two new poems “The Sunday Ruins of La Chiesa” and “The Abacus of Dreamscapes” in the wonderful (and very fitting) Issue 19 of Glassworks Magazine which is all about “Memory & Rumination, Conflicted Relationships, Liminal Spaces.” A contributor copy just arrived in my mailbox so I decided to introduce it to the neighbourhood and take a few book portraits.

Immersion: An Asian Anthology of Love, Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction is home to a brand new story called “The Winter Sister” which is kind of special to me for a few reasons.
Read MoreA chapbook of mine (that's been in the works for a long time) made the Shortlist for the Platform Review Chapbook contest!
Though the chapbook didn't win, I'm still buzzing from the wonderful acknowledgement and very grateful to the kind people behind the scenes who took the time to consider the work (and to tell me something along the lines of "close, keep going") and I hope to find a home for it soon.

The beautiful Windmill - Issue 4 is home to another flash fiction piece of mine called “Cornish Hens”. There are indeed Cornish hens in this story, but also included are some bunny barrettes and fatty pork bandages as well.
Time for another photo shoot!

One of my stories (of the circus-themed variety) has been long listed for the 2019 Berlin Writing Prize!
Final announcements for the shortlist, finalists, and winners will be in October, so, even though it’s a long shot, I’m eagerly waiting and crossing my fingers...and perhaps doing a happy dance in between…:)
Read MoreFebruary to June. 5 months. That is the span of time where myself and 18 other writers found a home for their work at the wonderful literary magazine Atlas and Alice. Our work was posted online throughout the months and were then compiled into this latest issue in sort of a beautiful look back. Sitting here, at the end of July, I’ve realized that the year is over half done, and personally, the first part feels like a bit of a blur. I find myself hoping that maybe the second half of the year will be a bit more careful, crafted, full of pictures and a few more stories.
