Ah, Greek food. Lemon and orange trees brighten the streets with fruit and blossoms. Fishermen sell their morning catch right on the docks. It feels like they truly live off of the land and sea here. While on the island of Crete, we tried to find a few dishes that are purely Cretan and encountered an intoxicating after-meal custom.

Read MoreWe took a break from the cement and exhaust of the big city and headed out to do something a little greener. The Singapore Botanic Gardens contains several themed gardens including a Healing Garden (displays plants used in traditional medicine in South East Asia), a Fragrant Garden (where jasmine and ylang ylang are still in bloom), a little bonsai garden, and more. The highlight is the Orchid Garden which takes you on a beautiful stroll through 1,000 species and over 2,000 different hybrids of orchids.
